Exploring Modular Synths Episode 0 - Beginner's Mind - Introduction and First Patch

This video is for beginners interested in exploring modular synthesis. It explains what a modular synth is, different types of modules, and how to create a first patch. I try to go step by step and use Pressure Points and Brains as a sequencer to run the Dixie ii+ oscillator, Peaks for envelopes, and the Echophon delay. If you enjoy, consider subscribing or becoming a Patreon supporter: For those interested, I also have an experimental album made entirely of live, improvised modular performances made with my set-up available here: I also do non-modular music: Thank you for your interest!

Suzanne Ciani | System 55

Contact your nearest modular dealer for pricing and availability: In this video, electronic music and sound design pioneer Suzanne Ciani explores the Moog modular System 55 for the first time in decades. Ciani came to the Moog factory in Asheville, NC to play the first System 55 newly handcrafted by Moog in over thirty years. The patch, created and performed live, was shot in one take and features a sequence designed on the 960 Sequential Controller that's driving three 921B oscillators into a 904B High Pass filter whose cutoff is being modulated by a 921 oscillator. A second set of 921B...

Flailing Wildly On a Table Full of Synthesizer (Part 1)

Someone wise once told me all you would need to play a live set was a DrumBrute and a distortion unit. I thought I would put that to the test. Live jam on 2 Meeblips and an Arturia DrumBute. Novation Launchpad used for triggers clips and effects. OP-1 used as MIDI controller for the Meeblips. Ableton for recording and FX. Exploring The Original R.A. MOOG Modular Synthesizer System

In the world of synthesizers and electronic music at large, Bob Moog is a giant. His creations and his brand have become the standard by which all synthesizers are judged. In the late 1960's, R.A. Moog created their ubiquitous modular synthesizer and with it, electronic music history was changed. When Mike Borish heard that Roosevelt University in Chicago had one of these monolithic synths sitting in disrepair, he had to fix it up and get it sequencing once again. And so he did, and Reverb was lucky enough to sit down with Mike and the Moog Modular to hear some...

Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe | Resonance | Performance | Exploratorium

Join us for the fifth event in the series, this time featuring Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, an artist and multi-instrumentalist who works with voice to create spontaneous and ecstatic musical compositions. Lowe—who also performs under the moniker Lichens—uses effects boxes to loop guitars, percussion, and vocals to form a reverberating drone. His most recent performances and recordings, such as Timon Irnok Manta and Lítió Fólk, have combined his voice with modular synthesizer patch compositions. Lowe believes that the sensitivity of analogue modular sound systems echoes the organic nature of vocal expression, and that the two together can induce a trancelike state...

Simplest DIY / Homemade Moog / ARP / KORG Filter Sound Analog Synthesizer EVER

This is a pulse width modulated oscillator, routed through a light-controlled resonant low pass filter. My objective was to produce a true synth sound with minimum parts count and all commonly available parts. By "true synth sound" I mean FAT dual oscillator tonality (via PWM) and a sweet high-resonance low pass filter. The light-control aspect gives amazing musical expression, as seen in the video clip. Made from all generic op-amps. (LM358, LM1458, LM741 all work equally well.) It can be tuned to any scale via the eight tunable potentiometers. Through a nice amp it absolutely GROWLS with earth-shaking bass...

Moog Model 15 Modular Synthesizer

A bass patch on the monolithic Moog Model 15. This 5U modular system is built by hand to the specs of the original 1973 system. The patch uses the sawtooth waves from the 921b oscillators mixed with white noise that is run through the fixed filter bank. This mix is then run through the legendary 904a low pass ladder filter which is modulated by an envelope and 921 oscillator used as an LFO. The filter goes into a VCA which is controlled by another envelope generator. A Korg SQ-1 is used to sequence the bass line and a Volca Beats...

Moog Emerson Modular Synthesizer System Review

Get the Moog Emerson Modular synth system here: Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater’s maven of modular madness, gives a quick run-through of the Emerson Moog Modular synthesizer. Sweetwater is proud to be chosen to sell the final unit (third of three) that Moog Music will build of this historic synthesizer. Because it was built using only ’60s-era technology and techniques, the Emerson Moog Modular doesn’t ring out with crystal-clear digital perfection. Subtle distortions and noise of every kind assault every note, and that is the secret of the clone’s success.

Moog Subharmonicon Reviewed and Explained

For more Subharmonicon and synth jams and reviews join me here: The Subharmonicon is a lovely, interesting and different synth from Moog. Only around 100 were hand soldered and built at Moogfest's 2018 Engineering Workshop, and there's no information currently about whether it will be released commercially. Even though availability is scarce, I decided to put together a review of this instrument, because the way it works is such a breath of fresh air when it comes to sound generation and sequencing. Also, one would hope that Moog will eventually mass produce the Subharmonicon, as they did for most, but not all...

Generative composition with Moog Mother 32 The rhythm was generated with the Xaoc Devices Batumi, the quasi-random melody was generated with Make Noise Maths and quantised with the Intellijel µScale II.
