Bell's Theorem: The Quantum Venn Diagram Paradox

Even though Albert Einstein (together with collaborators in the EPR Paradox paper) wanted to show that quantum mechanics must be incomplete because it was nonlocal (he didn't like "spooky action at a distance"), John Bell managed to prove that any local real hidden variable theory would have to satisfy certain simple statistical properties that quantum mechanical experiments (and the theory that describes them) violate. Since then, GHZ and...

THE MAKING(English Version)(264)The Making of Candles

“The Making” series. This series follows the technology used to make products we regularly come in contact with, explaining its contents and related science and technology. In this episode we introduce candles. We cover two types of candles, Japanese candles, resistant to wind and producing little soot, and western candles, that can easily be made into different shapes. Japanese candles are made by applying wax found in the nuts of a Japanese wax tree, by hand. Western candles are made by melting paraffin, which comes from petroleum, and shaped in molds.

The World in UV

UV cameras expose a hidden world and reveal the incompleteness of our perception The Physics Girl looks at sunscreen: https://youtu.be/GRD-xvlhGMc How to make sunscreen from scratch: https://youtu.be/lMXAY5F28L0 In summary, ultraviolet light interacts differently with matter for a number of reasons: 1. Some pigments selectively absorb UV so they may appear white in the visible but dark in the UV. The pigments usually dissipate the UV energy as heat, though the breaking of bonds can also occur. 2. Fluorescent molecules absorb UV light and re-radiate that energy as visible light. This makes them look dark in the UV but glowing under black light. 3. Ultraviolet light scatters...

Breaking Pole Paradox- center of mass // Homemade Science with Bruce Yeany

The Breaking pole paradox is not really a paradox but I didn't name it. This demonstration starts with a long thin wooden pole supported at either end atop two water glasses. A swift impulsive blow breaks the pole at it's center without managing to knock over the cups and spill a single drop. How is it possible? I am breaking it against the inertia of the pole, Swinging the metal bar as fast as I can with a quick hit would cause a quick downward acceleration on the wooden pole. But, since the...
